Reata Equine Veterinary Group is offering a one-year internship in ambulatory practice to begin Spring or Summer 2018. We strive to offer our interns and students a safe environment to gain experience in equine practice through hard work and dedication. The tools you acquire while at Reata will help you transition into a successful associate in equine private practice or give you real-world experience before accepting academic positions.
You will become immersed in equine practice from the first day. Our doctors work hard to provide quality medical care to our patients and teach interns at the same time. We will mentor you on a regular basis, both in prearranged settings and with each opportunity that arises spontaneously. Reata thinks that interns learn best by actually doing medicine and not just observing. Our doctors will be your advisers as you transition from a student into a practitioner. We are good listeners, empathetic and thoughtful. We have career experience and knowledge that we readily share with our interns. We offer over 70 years of combined equine practice experience to our students and interns. Reata wants you to bring a strong desire to learn, a desire to be mentored, diversity, energy to work long hours and provide fresh ideas to our group.
Interns will go with an experienced practitioner from the first day however, we expect you to progress to providing first opinions on cases and emergencies and be able to provide treatment plans after a 6-8 week training period. Back up help is always available to you and we can manage cases with a team approach when needed. Experienced certified technicians will accompany the intern on most scheduled calls where the intern is providing a first opinion on a case.
Part of the value of the internship program is learning to effectively deal with horse owners, how to gain owner compliance and provide value while treating their horse. We can teach you how to do that.
