The Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center is an open admission shelter located in Camden County, NJ that has maintained an over 90% live release for 2 years and is looking for someone with a passion for saving lives. Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center seeks a motivated individual to oversee the medical and surgical needs of animals in our care to include providing high-quality, high volume spay/neuter surgeries. This position requires strong communication and team building skills with both shelter staff and volunteers.
Perform high volume spay/neuter surgeries to include pediatric spay/neuter.
Oversee pre and post-operative care of animals.
Perform additional surgical procedures on an as needed basis such as: lumpectomy removal, hernia repair, dental and tooth extractions. Limited orthopedic and ocular procedures.
Provide wellness care for in shelter and client animals including but not limited to, disease prevention programs, routine health care, vaccines, testing and treatments.
Remain up-to-date on professional advances on animal health protocols, surgical procedures and companion animal health issues.
Responsible for proper protocol adherence on medication and drug usage to ensure animals are cared for when absent and/or by technicians. Follows professional standards and guidelines.
Humane treatment of animals
Is able to accept and explain the concepts of prepubescent sterilization, prerelease sterilization of adopted animals and humane euthanasia.
Must recognize or be willing to gain working knowledge of normal and abnormal health and behavioral conditions of the patients, pre and post-surgery.
Knowledge of the diseases and disorders of animals, spay and neuter and related procedures, and animal handling and restraint.
Must have familiarity with medical terminology and medical knowledge.
Must have knowledge of the mathematics for the conversion and dosing of medications and injectable medications.
Knowledge of disinfecting procedures; antisepsis and asepsis
Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures and safety standards.
Maintain an appropriate appearance and the ability to tactfully and effectively work with the public.

Provide and record accurate medical records and information.

Degree in veterinary medicine from an accepted school is required.
