Reporting Structure: The Veterinary Technician Manager is under the direct guidance and supervision of the Practice Manager and Medical Director, who will indicate general assignments, limitations and priorities. The Manager uses initiative while independently carrying out recurring assignments, but refers deviations, problems and unfamiliar situations to the Practice Manager and/or Medical Director.
Summary: The Veterinary Technician Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction and support to the technical team. In addition to performing all Veterinary Technician responsibilities, duties may include but are not limited to motivating, engaging, scheduling and training team members while identifying and resolving workplace conflicts. The Manager may also collaborate with hospital management to manage inventory, create and enforce hospital protocols, support organizational goals, assess team member performance and document related performance issues. This position requires advanced proficiency in Veterinary Technician skills and knowledge, experience leading a team and proven communication and organizational skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate advanced proficiency and maintain all Veterinary Technician skills and knowledge.
Oversee the inventory of pharmaceutical supplies and drugs.
Maintain and reconcile controlled substance and surgery logs.
Ensure monitoring and support equipment are in good working condition.
Assist hospital management with the creation and adjustment of hospital procedures and protocols.
Delegate daily responsibilities and oversee their completion.
Aid in the recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, disciplinary and termination process/procedures of Veterinary Technician staff.
Provide coaching and mentorship to technical staff as required.
Oversee the appropriate scheduling of technical staff.
Minimum five years’ experience as a Veterinary Technician
At least one year of managing a team of 10+
Ability to work full-time – weekend shifts and overtime may be required
