Animal Protective League of Springfield and Sangamon County
The Animal Protective League (APL) in Springfield, Illinois is an established animal welfare organization that operates an HVHQ spay/neuter clinic and a limited admission animal shelter. APL is dedicated to ending pet overpopulation through spay/neuter, adoption, and various community programs, including a low-cost wellness clinic. Since the clinic opened in 2006 we have performed over 150,000 surgeries, and area euthanasia rates have dropped more than 70%. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and like-minded full-time and/or part-time veterinarian(s) to join us in our mission to end the euthanasia of healthy adoptable animals in our community and beyond. Our four staff veterinarians appreciate collaborating on individual cases and provide mentoring as needed. We have open positions for a Shelter Veterinarian and a Spay/Neuter Clinic Veterinarian. Our Spay/Neuter Clinic Veterinarians perform 13,000 spay/neuter surgeries and provide wellness care to 1,000 locally owned animals annually. Each Clinic Veterinarian is responsible for performing spay/neuter surgeries and rechecks for owned pets, shelter animals, and feral cats, providing medical care to cats in our barn cat program, performing wellness appointments at monthly vaccine clinics, participating in occasional community pet wellness initiatives, and treating shelter animals medically and surgically on an as-needed basis. The Shelter Veterinarian provides care for over 2,400 shelter animals over the course of a year including animals in the shelter and those in foster homes. Our shelter prioritizes sick and injured animals so this position provides a unique opportunity to combine herd health with individualized medicine and allows for a wide variety of cases. Our Shelter Veterinarian diagnoses and treats shelter animals, maintains disease treatment and prevention protocols for the shelter, takes vaccine and wellness appointments, participates in monthly vaccine clinics and performs a wide variety of surgeries as needed. Enjoy living in a metropolitan capital city with a small-town feel? Benefits include: collaborative work environment with 4 other vets, mentoring as needed, new grads welcome, competitive salary and benefits including health insurance, vacation time, licensing fees, and CEUs. Email resume and cover letter to: Deana Corbin, Executive Director, admin@apl-shelter.org.
