The Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in the Section of Field Service. This position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Academic Clinician track and is expected to enhance the clinical and teaching missions of the School. The position is equine-focused and the ideal candidate would possess an interest in sports medicine and preventative care. The successful applicant will join our collaborative team of five faculty members providing high-quality elective and emergency ambulatory services to a broad base of equine clients, including performance horse facilities, individual horse owners, and small breeding farms. Field Service offers a wide variety of clinical services including lameness and performance evaluations, preventative medicine and dentistry, upper airway endoscopy and gastroscopy, breeding management and foal care, and complementary medicine including acupuncture and chiropractic therapy.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will provide ambulatory clinical service to equine patients and will rotate with the other equine Field Service clinicians in the emergency schedule. Teaching of veterinary students in both a didactic and a clinical setting is an important aspect of the position, as is clinical training of equine interns and residents. Faculty members in the Academic Clinician track are expected to demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and innovation in delivery of care. While there is no requirement for research productivity, the successful applicant is encouraged to collaborate with and strengthen research programs of faculty in the Section of Field Service and other sections within the Department of Clinical Studies–New Bolton Center.
Qualifications: VMD/DVM or equivalent degree, and at least 3 years of clinical practice or residency training in equine medicine, surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation or related fields with the ability to be licensed in PA, MD, and DE at the time of hire. Board certification or eligibility for certification is desirable, but not required.
