Do you love the “rush” of emergency, but are tired of working overnight shifts and holidays?
Are you feeling overwhelmed performing major surgery and managing critical cases while patients are waiting to be seen?
Are you finding general practice no longer satisfying or challenging?
Maybe it’s time for a new and different opportunity in veterinary medicine?
PriorityVet is NOT just another emergency practice. We are a true, walk-in, outpatient Urgent Care facility. We have simplified the after-hours care concept. We focus on the non-emergent and streamline the process. We are open daily from 4pm-11pm and are closed on the major holidays. We are a non-corporate, owner-operator practice. Our shift leads present care estimates to clients and our technicians carry out your care plans allowing you to focus on practicing high quality medicine. Minor wounds are the only surgery you’ll undertake at PriorityVet. All major surgery and critical cases are referred to a local 24 hour care facility after stabilization.
Like what you hear? Come join the PriorityVet team as a True URGENT CARE Veterinarian!
Full-time, Part-time and per diem opportunities available. Full-Time is only 7 shifts every 14 days.
PriorityVet is the only existing STAND-ALONE, TRUE URGENT CARE PRACTICE in the greater NJ region. We diverge from traditional ERs and urgent care "departments" currently available for after-hours care. We have reduced wait times, lower bills and less stress by design.
Our clinicians never have to compete for practice resources, have no hospitalized cases to tend to and provide no routine care, ever. There's no waiting for a free exam room, the x-ray suite, the lab or a phone. No sharing of receptionists, technicians or assistants. No one deciding what cases the clinician is responsible for. Everyone and every resource is dedicated to our urgent care clinicians and care. This allows us to focus on non-critical cases and to be nimble, efficient and economical in our delivery of superior outpatient care in this rapidly growing niche.
The vast majority of our patients are treated on an outpatient basis with short-term admission for diagnostics and minor anesthetic procedures (lacerations, urethral obstruction, splinting, etc). The facility is well-equipped with full in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, EKG, BP, Tonopen, pulse oximetry, fluid pumps, Isoflurane and cloud-based practice software.
In a bold and unprecedented effort to conserve our valuable resources, focus on returning pets to wellness, and to preserve our precious mental health, we do not offer euthanasia as a stand-alone, on-demand procedure to pet owners calling or arriving seeking same. Only clients presenting for care of an ill, distressed or pet in pain are offered this service.
Where are we located:
- Toms River, NJ, currently
- Building of second location underway in Howell
- Soon, throughout New Jersey
What we do:
- Only treat dogs and cats
- Cater to pet owners presenting with cases that are not truly emergent
- Pets are largely treated on an outpatient basis
- Work-ups are always encouraged
- Short-term admissions for diagnostics, stabilization, brief treatment and short anesthetic procedures (minor wounds/abscesses, unblocking)
- Life-saving emergent interventions when necessary
- Estimates are generated and presented by shift lead prior to all care
- We refer pets requiring major surgery or continued care to a 24-hour care facility 15-20 minutes away.
- Pets are typically directed back to their family veterinarian for follow-up care
- Follow-up calls are made the next day.
What we don't do:
- We don't schedule appointments
- We don't triage or give medical advice over the phone

- We don't do preventative care
- We don't do exotics, wildlife, rescues or strays
- We don't do euthanasia as a stand-alone, on-demand procedure.
How we do it:
- Our hours allow for the recruitment of well-qualified staff (not just those willing to work the overnights and holidays like in typical ER)
- We are fully equipped - electric lift tables, in-house laboratory, digital radiography, Tonopen, ultrasound, EKG-defibrillator, blood pressure, pulse-oximetry and cloud-based practice software.
- We incorporate FearFree techniques into our practice to foster less stressful visits for all involved.
- We electronically forward reports and diagnostics to the rDVM the same day.
- Associates are supported by a minimum of 5 staff members
- Ready access to the owner for case collaboration when needed.
Who are we looking for:
- An optimistic, gregarious, energetic, Associate Veterinarian, Full or Part-Time
- Minimum of 3 years of general practice experience
- Solid General Medicine skills a must
- Emergency experience is not required but aptitude in triage and stabilization of critically ill or traumatized pets is desirable.
