Serve as a member of the TVMDL Veterinary Services Section by providing consultations with TVMDL clients in the areas of test selection and testing strategies, interpretation of results, and disease prevention, surveillance, and control programs. Provide guidance and direction to clients on diagnostic tests requested, case development, and case reporting.
Coordinate multiply assigned cases to ensure consistency and appropriate interpretation of test results. Resolve complex, confidential or sensitive diagnostic case issues with clients, contracting agencies, and other TVMDL customers. Facilitate investigation of complex cases that impact livestock in Texas. Provide leadership on issues related to diagnostic veterinary medicine to ensure the service needs of TVMDL's diverse clientele and stakeholders are being met.
Utilize professional training in veterinary medicine to provide expert guidance to testing section personnel. Liaison with all branches and sections at TVMDL to ensure client needs are met in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner, to include supporting integration and collaboration between diagnostic disciplines.
Maintain awareness of scientific developments in diagnostic veterinary medicine; support and advocate current practices to diagnostic testing as appropriate. Provide input on determination of diagnostic priorities as well as emerging issues. Monitor livestock and public health disease management programs applicable to TVMDL clientele.
Coordinate reporting of reportable diseases to other state and federal entities as appropriate. Serve as a liaison with key administrators and diagnosticians at partner organizations, including the US Department of Agriculture, Texas Animal Health Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, Centers for Disease Control, Texas Racing Commission, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and others.
Design, lead, and/or participate in educational programs, teaching and training for students, veterinarians, producers and allied industry groups at the state, national and international level.
Work in close collaboration with Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD), Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture, and other outreach and training partners. Work with public and private partners in the development and implementation of agency initiatives.
Represent TVMDL at conferences, trade shows and exhibitions to promote TVMDL services and expertise. Represent TVMDL within relevant professional societies, and at scientific and industry meetings, promoting the overall national/ international reputation of the laboratory system.
Contribute to scholarly articles, publications, and presentations. Work in close collaboration with the TVMDL Communications Coordinator to develop marketing materials. Collaborate with TVMDL staff to develop and implement client education, recruitment, and retention strategies.
All work shall be performed in accordance with validated test methods, SOPs, procedures, employee training and proficiency, and equipment standards, as applicable. Work shall be performed with adherence to federal, state, Texas A&M University System, and TVMDL safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. All work shall be performed in such as way as to not expose others or myself to hazards that are avoidable by reasonable and approved methods.
Ensure adherence and compliance with the TVMDL Quality Assurance Manual and associated quality assurance procedures. Actively participate in quality assurance and safety programs, cross training, and skill development as applicable.
Foster laboratory teamwork, cooperation, professional standards, and communications. Provide excellent customer service to laboratory clients.

This position requires a pre-exposure rabies vaccination series; TVMDL will cover all costs.
This position is required to work during normal business hours onsite at the College Station laboratory M-F 8 am – 5 pm. Occasional after-hours, weekend duty, and/or overnight travel is required.

Preferred Education & Experience:
Experience in large animal or mixed animal practice is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in teaching and/or public speaking.
Professional knowledge of veterinary diagnostic principles, concepts, practices, and established methodologies sufficient to provide technical knowledge on a full range of veterinary analytical testing programs.
Working knowledge of veterinary diseases that affect livestock and companion animals.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work independently, network within the community, and respond positively to policy, administration, and supervision.
Ability to learn and apply new technical skills following training.
Computer competency, especially with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Board certification in a veterinary specialty

The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) was first created by the Texas Legislature in 1967 to serve the state’s livestock industry. Now as part of the Texas A&M University System, TVMDL has grown to include two full-service laboratories and two poultry laboratories serving veterinarians, livestock producers, and government agencies across the state and world.
