Externs should have a strong interest in equine ambulatory practice along with a good work ethic and positive attitude. We only accept one extern at a time in order to ensure that each student receives one-on-one attention and mentorship. We encourage students in any year of their veterinary study to apply for the externship, although 4th year vet students are generally given scheduling priority.
Externships typically last 1-3 weeks and are preferentially scheduled from March to October. Students will have an opportunity to ride along with each veterinarian in the practice. Routine appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday and variably on the weekend. Externs are additionally encouraged to assist with emergency calls.
We provide excellent on-site housing at no cost that includes a private bedroom, bathroom, and a full kitchen. A personal vehicle is recommended.
