Veterinary student externship openings
Externships are available in the fall, winter, and spring. The business is a two-person mixed practice consisting of 35% large animal and 20% small. The large animal is mostly cow/calf with some feedlot, dairy, sheep and goats, and horses. The small animal is mostly dogs and cats. Herd health concepts are emphasized in all operations. The clinic has a small animal exam/treatment/surgery room, dispensing/reception area, lab/prep room, small kennel for surgical recovery and calf intravenous patients. Out back in an enclosed area is a large animal chute and tip table (both hydraulic) with the holding corral also under roof. Both haul in work and ambulatory work are abundant. The externship would provide students with exposure to lots of different cases depending on time of year. I like learning what students bring from their schooling and also enjoy teaching in everyday experiences. Housing is provided in our home.
Willingness and enthusiasm to learn. A desire to serve our animal patients as well as the people who own them. Should have coveralls, boots, and a stethoscope. Warmer clothes are necessary if the extern chosen falls in the winter months.
Parker veterinary clinic is a mixed animal practice established in 1980. We are 65% large animal with the majority of that being cow/calf. There are a few large dairies that we are starting to service. We also see a few horses, sheep, and goats. The clinic has haul-in facilities for large animal with a corral under roof, hydraulic chute and tilt table. A hydraulic chute with scale is used on the farm as well. We have Ibex ultrasounds, in house CBC and blood chemistries, and a portable digital x ray unit. Herd health programs are encouraged in all species. Small animal services include normal vaccinations, spays, neuters, c sections, sick animal treatments, etc. The practice is growing continually and has a very encouraging number of new young clients entering the farming operations. We are in need of another associate who will share the load. We encourage development of your own special interests. The practice has grown on principles of honesty and integrity. Buy in potential is ready for the right individual.
