West Loop Veterinary Care is in the heart of Chicago, just steps away from the bustle of downtown, the perfect location for anyone excited about everything the great city of Chicago has to offer. We are a thriving AAHA-accredited, AAFP-certified hospital with fear-free certified professionals. While we are 9 DVMs strong, we use our size to our advantage by often working on cases together, offering second opinions, and mentoring.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN VETERINARY EXTERNSHIP WITH WEST LOOP VETERINARY CARE

• Assigned mentor to guide your experience and help you set and achieve your goals.
• Assist with surgical procedures using Force Triad, possibly assisting in laparoscopic surgery.
• Complete full physical exams on hospital patients.
• Work directly with a veterinarian in the exam room.
• Order and analyze laboratory tests and results.
• Interpret digital radiographs and ultrasound imaging.
• 30-40 hours of experience per week
• Stipend upon externship completion

Our team will be by your side the entire time to guide your experience, collaborate on treatment, and coach your communication. You will meet with your mentor at the beginning of the externship to set goals for yourself. Throughout the externship, you will track your goals with the help of our skilled team. At the end of the externship, you will review your accomplishments with your mentor and complete appropriate documentation for your program.
