Parker Veterinary Clinic
Location: Parker, South Dakota
Salary: a stipend will be considered
Parker Veterinary Clinic is a 2 man mixed animal practice established in 1980. We are 70% large animal and 30% small. The large animal is predominantly cow/calf but we do have a few large dairies that we have been working for--800 to 7000 cows. We have a haul in facility that is used extensively but also do lots of work on the farm. Herd health programs are stressed in all species. We do lots of bovine reproductive work--ultrasound and manual pregnancy diagnosis, vaccinations, etc. We process calves in the spring and fall, do breeding soundness exam, treatments, surgeries and whatever is needed. The small animal portion is typical services--vaccinations, diagnosis and treatments, surgeries ranging from spays and neuters, to c sections, amputations, bladder stone removals, to name a few. There are also some horses, sheep, goats, occasional llama to look at. Externships are offered for the learning atmosphere for both the students and us. We also hope to possibly attract potential associates that we would be willing to hire after graduation.
Have a learning attitude. Be willing to participate in as much hands on activity as we can provide. Be open, honest, and caring for the clients.
Parker Veterinary clinic was formed in 1980 and has been growing ever since. Currently we have two veterinarians and would like to add another. We find that hosting externs is a good way to get students to learn about our practice. We are 75-80% large animal and the rest mostly dogs and cats. The large animal is mostly cow/calf but we are working for a few dairies that have from 800 to 7000 cows. There are always some horses and some sheep and goats. The small animal is growing. We do the routine spays and neuters but will also get c sections, amputations, bladder stone cystotomies, lacerations and others. We have a haul-in facility for large animal which is used a lot. But we still go out to the farms as needed. We enjoy hydraulic chutes and a hydraulic tilt table. We are equipped with ultrasound machines for reproductive work and have hematology and blood chemistry machines. The practice has grown and is maintained with principles of honesty and integrity.
